You can’t please them all
In truth and in fact, Finance Minister Colm Imbert had a thankless task, delivering the country’s annual fiscal package.
For those who not financially inclined like yours truly, to understand the nitty gritty of it, here it is plain and simple.
We are spending more than we make.
We make 30plus billion. We are spending 50plus billion.
Simple maths will show this does not add up.
But how do we achieve balance without upending the country?
Like the Gaming Associations who support single mothers, even up to tertiary education.
As Trinis, we have lived off the fat of the land for too long.
It is hard times, though the number of boat rides would suggest otherwise.
But the problem is not the taxes, according to the experts.
It’s the present system of collection which has way too many holes.
So Mr. Imbert, we understand the need to tighten our belts.
But do not attempt to hang those that put you there with the same belts you ask them to tighten.
