The Parable of the Priest in a Storm.
It was a dark and cold night as the priest trudged home, weary from granting redemption for pitiful souls.
But his night was not done yet.
As he crawled into his home, demons took him down.
They wanted more.
And as all men of the cloth should be, he gave all he could.
After which they tied him down and made good their escape.
The sound of lightning striking a tree outside the church.
the priest prayed for his parish and the blessed house of worship.
the creaking of timbers froze his heart, but mercies abound.
The tree missed the church, but fell in front the doorway.
There was a piercing scream. The burglars!
In their greed, they had tried to rob the sanctum of its precious metal cups.
Now two were stuck in the church as one was pinned by the falling tree.
Shivering with rain and fright, the untied the priest, crying and begging for his mercy.
As the priest slowly rubbed his wrists, they flung themselves at his feet.
He rose them up and strode into the church.
As the priest went out, he saw the thief was not dead, but close to.
As the priests gave him a final blessing, he smiled.
And the rains stopped to reveal brilliant sunshine.
The priest turned to the other two and said
“You are forgiven of your crimes. God has smiled upon you and our island as we escape the storm. Will you?”
Crying, the two men surrendered to the priest.
He patted their heads and let them go free.
Instead, they stayed forever in the church as his helpers, doing good deeds for all the wrong they had done.
For the priest had faced a storm.
And he had helped the criminals paint a shiny new future.
