The Badshah of Bollywood, Shah Rukh Khan, does not understand the nepotism debate in the film industry as he also came from a non-filmy background. He initially struggled but went on to have an incredible amount of success and continues to be a favourite amongst his star colleagues.
In a recent interview with Times of India, SRK said, “I don’t understand this (nepotism). How can I understand it? I am a Delhi boy, who went to Mumbai at the age of 25. There everybody loved me and accepted me. So, I don’t understand this talk.” The actor went on to say, “I want my kids to make a name for themselves on their own feet. If they want to become marine biologist, then she should become that. If they want to become an actor or a filmmaker, then that’s also great.”
Actress Kangana Ranaut was one of the first persons to speak up about nepotism in Bollywood, and even called filmmaker Karan Johar, “flag bearer of nepotism.” Since she made that statement, she has gotten support from some actors while others chose to poke fun at her at a recent awards’ show.
SRK is currently promoting his latest film with Anushka Sharma, Jab Harry Met Sejal.
