Sanjay Leela Bhansali is happy Bollywood is appreciated Internationally
Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s 2002 hit Devdas was presents fifteen (15) years ago at the Cannes Film
Festival. In 2017, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has yet again presented it to an international
audience. Bhansali said, “Indian films are now being increasingly embraced internationally due
to the warmth they exude with their heavy dose of emotions.”
He went on to say that seeing Devdas at Cannes after so many years filled him with so much
pride and brought back memories of putting it together. Bhansali was reminded of his struggles
but was filled with happiness to see his film become a success. The director told Indian Express,
for the first time in years he got excited for something other than making a film.
Bhansali also said, “At a time when the world is clogged with bitterness it’s reassuring to
experience a cinema where the smallest of emotions matter. Also Indian cinema is celebratory in
mood.” His films like Devdas, Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela and Bajirao Mastani have been
known to bring about a free flow of emotion.
